Isaac Adams’s “Talking About Race” is out this week. But I can save you a lot of time. Here’s everything the Bible tells Christians about race:
1. The entire human race came from Adam and Eve in the Garden.
2. Over time, that one physical family filled the Earth and to some degree has subdued it. But they quickly apostatized and abandoned their God.
3. Christ came to reconcile all of them to the Father and to each other through adoption into one new family, born not merely of flesh but of spirit. Through that adoption, all who call upon His name are made not only brothers and sisters of Christ but co-heirs with Him. And in Him, there is no Jew or Greek, no barbarian or Scythian, no slave or free: we are reconciled as one.
4. That entire physical family — all mankind — is required to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to love their neighbors as themselves. One would expect that that entire spiritual, adopted family would actually do it.
That is the Biblical testimony on race. There are no races. There is one physical family. It fights a lot. If you want “racial reconciliation” you’re shooting at the wrong target. The only possible reconciliation is of individual sinners in and to Christ Jesus our Lord. In Him alone is there peace.
