While the United States tops the list in gun ownership – at nearly 90 guns per 100 people – we aren’t even in the Top 100 for murders. In fact, we’re all the way down at 111. Coming in at just 4.7 murders per 100,000 residents, the United States is safer than 110 other countries, and would be much safer still were it not for a handful of big cities run by Democrats for many years (many of which have stringent gun control measures).
For instance, Detroit, MI has a murder rate of 54.6 per 100,000 people. New Orleans trails closely behind at 53.2.
FreedomOutpost.com has a nice little write-up complete with statistics that your liberal friends will hate.
Among their statistics are murder rates for multiple U.S. cities:
- New Orleans – 53.2 per 100,000
- St. Louis – 35.5 per 100,000
- Baltimore – 34.9 per 100,000
- Newark – 34.4 per 100,000
- Oakland – 31.8 per 100,000
- Stockton – 23.7 per 100,000
- Kansas City – 22.6 per 100,000
- Philadelphia – 21.5 per 100,000
- Cleveland – 21.3 per 100,000
- Memphis – 20.2 per 100,000
- Atlanta – 19.0 per 100,000
- Chicago – 18.5 per 100,000
There are, however, very safe cities. Many of them have a lot of gun-owning citizens:
- Austin – 3.7
- Seattle – 3.7
- San Diego – 3.5
- El Paso – 3.4
- Portland – 3.3
- Santa Ana – 3.3
- Mesa – 3.1
- Henderson – 1.5
- Lincoln – 1.1
- Plano – 0.4
Is it any wonder that states like Texas are passing open carry laws while liberals double down in other states? We imagine the residents of Plano, TX like their gun laws just the way they are.
