The Democrats have no solutions for anything, as their primary focus is hating Donald Trump and anyone who supports him. This focus on hate and intolerance continues to drive normal people out of the party and will be the end of the Democratic Party unless the few remaining normals regain power from the crazies.

"Or was Biden’s appeasement interpreted as weakness to be exploited rather than magnanimity to be reciprocated?"

The whole world is more akin to rival gangs fighting over turf than anything approaching an enlightened group of people with only everyone else's well being prioritized. Biden's appeasement, anyone's appeasement, will always be viewed as a weakness to be exploited. That's simply self-evident, and the problem with ignoring reality is that reality will always run you over. Always. The chronic stupidity and refusal to address HOW THINGS ARE™ is scary and very very concerning.

In a nutshell, that sounds like this ‘nihilism’ that I hear talk about !

Their only concern is not the problem, but seemingly like only a diversion to everything. . . “”But . . . What came first? The dog or the flea?””

I wonder if the Democrats would have been successful had they not had the state funded media lying to citizens. The real problem may be the media. The media is supposed to be neutral and report the truth so people can be informed. They have become the state media propagating lies and misinformation.

As many ways as the system is rigged against us, it's a miracle we ever win anything. Just think if we leveled the playing field.

I’m trying to get my head around this ‘Nihilism’ terminology being used now. I heard it used in a Tucker Carlson interview with Michael Shellenberger discussing the California fires yesterday. It sounds ridiculous to me.

I think a lot of words lose there explanatory power when they become talking points of talking heads. The words lose their nuance and just become code for value judgements.

But that's not actually what's happening in this case.

I haven't seen the referenced discussion. So what is happening. Or should I look for it?

Nihilism is a pretty specific term describing a world view that denies objective meaning, among other things. I'm not sure what Carlson thinks he is saying. If he's describing carelessness and the ignoring of certain realities about fighting fires or preventing them, there are better terms such as incompetence, failure, lack of firesight, wishful thinking; the list goes on. I suppose one could lay all those faults at the feet of nihilism, but that's a pretty long causal chain, kind of like blaming the departure from gothic architecture for a leaky roof in a modern house. Sure, maybe. More likely an inexperienced roofer.

Nihilism is a philosophical stance that rejects or denies the existence of inherent meaning, purpose, or value in life, often associated with extreme pessimism and a radical skepticism.

Core beliefs include: (1) Life is inherently meaningless and without purpose, (2) Traditional values and beliefs are unfounded, (3) Objective truth and morality do not exist.

Different forms of nihilism exist, including:

- Existential nihilism: Focuses on the lack of inherent meaning in existence.

- Moral nihilism: Rejects the existence of objective moral values.

- Epistemological nihilism: Questions the possibility of objective knowledge.

- Political nihilism: Advocates for the destruction of established political institutions.

The term "nihilism" comes from the Latin word "nihil," meaning "nothing". Nihilism gained prominence in the 19th century, particularly in Russia, where it was associated with revolutionary movements. Friedrich Nietzsche, a prominent philosopher, explored nihilism extensively, arguing that it could lead to a crisis of values.

The belief that morality is a social construct, rather than an objective reality, is a form of moral nihilism.

I don’t know, other than my curiosity, that I gave this a listen this morning, but oh my goodness! These people sure are “peculiar sorts”, as my Mother would say about ones, w/o having to say what I would! Wish that both of my forefathers names were not even a part !!!

Couldn’t read much of the following article. I was looking for some sort of an anti-nihilism cannonball.

Looks like an interesting article, but like you I did not want to buy the article. My guess is the upshot is that nihilism is a somewhat bankrupt world view that may offer an individual some level of solace temporarily, but is unsustainable for a culture or society. I think the attraction is it validates someone's desire to do whatever they want and damn the consequences.

I think that’s what they are selling in the Universities. I lost my 44 year old son to this ‘cancer’. I pray everyday for him to wake up.
