Inauguration Sunday: Is Christian Patriotism and Political Action Sinful?

On the Sunday before the Inauguration, what is a Christian's duty in the civic sphere, is partisanship unbiblical, and is patriotism really "idolatry"? This is a message every American needs to hear.

Christians made tomorrow’s Inauguration, and the Congressional majorities, and the first conservative Supreme Court majority in most of a century, possible.

Were we wrong to do so? And what does the Bible say about patriotism, partisanship, and civic duty?

Some Evangelical leaders believe patriotism (at least for America) is idolatry. They never miss a chance (in Jeane Kirkpatrick’s words) to “blame America first”.

In this video from 2020, Pastor Brad Jurkovich and I address these issues, as well as the nature of a Christian’s civic duty: what it is, what it isn’t.

Does loving your neighbor mean only your neighbor halfway around the world?

My answer is no. Watch to find out why.
